What is scalp micropigmentation (SMP)?
Find out how SMP works, who it is suitable for, and what results you can expect from modern trichopigmentation.
What is SMP?
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a cosmetic procedure in which specialised medical-grade pigments are introduced into the upper layers of the scalp using micro-needles. Each dot mimics the cross-section of a hair follicle, creating the illusion of a closely cropped head or denser hair.
Who is SMP suitable for?
The procedure is suitable for:
- men with complete or partial androgenetic hair loss;
- women with diffuse hair thinning;
- people with scars from hair transplantation or injuries;
- anyone wanting to create the illusion of greater hair density.
How does the procedure work?
The procedure involves 2-3 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart. The first session lays the base density layer. The second adds depth and refines the tone. The third session finalises the result.
How long do the results last?
With adherence to the aftercare protocol and UV protection for the scalp, results last 3-5 years. A scheduled touch-up is then recommended to refresh the pigment.
