SMP after a hair transplant: why and when

A hair transplant does not solve every problem. We explain how SMP helps conceal the donor scar and boost the density of your result.

Why a transplant is not always the final answer

Hair transplantation (FUE or FUT) is an effective method of restoring hair in the frontal and crown zones. However, a number of issues can remain after surgery: a donor scar at the back of the head, insufficient density in the transplant zone, or an unwanted boundary between transplanted and natural hair.

How SMP complements a transplant

Micropigmentation combined with transplantation makes it possible to:

  • Conceal the donor scar - pigment is applied to the scar area in a tone matching the surrounding skin, making it virtually invisible.
  • Increase visible density - the transplanted hair may not be sufficient for ideal fullness; SMP compensates for this visually.
  • Smooth transitions - SMP creates a gradual, natural transition between the transplant zone and the remaining hair.

When to have SMP after a transplant

The optimal time is 12 months after the transplant, once the transplanted hair has fully taken hold and the final pattern has formed. Before that point, the transplant result is not yet complete, which makes precise pigment work more difficult.
